Myanmar IPP: An important milestone in the development of Myanmar’s power sector
In March 2016, the Myanmar Government signed a power purchase agreement for the country’s first ever competitively awarded independent power project (the Myingyan IPP). This ‘market first’ will provide a benchmark for the development of, and looks to set a bankable precedent for, future IPPs in Myanmar. This article takes a closer look at the structure and risk allocation of the project documents forming the core of the Myingyan IPP, providing an insight into how Myanmar specific issues have been addressed in the context of the Myingyan IPP.
